The Kyron Horman Circus

My heart breaks for this child. But, I just have to say, what is up with all those different hairstyles on the Mom? She certainly knows how to dress for the occasion! So far I have seen her with three different hairstyles and to tell the truth, she just does not look or act like a grieving mother. If my daughter had been murdered, my hair would be the least of my worries. Something just is not adding up.

The above quote is a comment referring to Diena Thompson, mother of Somer Thompson-- a little girl from Orange Park, Florida who was snatched while walking home from school in the fall of 2009. The comment appeared under this article , where many more similar comments remain in public view. I could post example after example of how people bashed, blamed, and criticized every tiny of Diena Thompson's life, but the quote above is just a glimpse into the minds of people who have no idea what it is like to go through the traumatic loss of a child.

When a child goes missing and is subsequently found murdered, there is no rule book for how the family should grieve. It wouldn't matter, even if there was because people come to their own conclusions based on what they only perceive. I'm betting if any of these people had to walk in Diena Thompson's shoes for one day, they would completely change their mind. It doesn't seem to matter what the grieving families of a missing child do. Let's suppose for a moment that Diena Thompson came out with her hair uncombed, raggedy clothes, and makeup smeared all over her face. I suppose she would be criticized for that, too. People would probably assume she was on drugs. In the end, these comments are hurtful and reach a level that is sometimes dangerous.

The Kyron Horman case is no exception to the high profile hi-jinks that permeate the internet. The stench at times is unbelievable. What started out as people sharing the news of an adorable missing little boy and getting his name out there has turned into a full blown circus, with many vying for the position of ringmaster and enough clowns to put P.T. Barnum to shame. It has all the hallmarks of the typical high-profile case: A missing child, a dysfunctional family, sex, intrigue, a front page archive in every major news organization in Portland, and of course the prying eyes of the public. Pretty soon, the focus shifts from the child who is missing to the person who may or may not be responsible. In this case, Terri Horman, Kyron's step-mother. Oh sure, they claim they do this for Kyron, but really all they want to do is somehow get their name connected to a high-profile case. They do things that can be detrimental to the case, such as clog the tip line with their "tips" that even a rookie detective would know to check into. They become detectives in their own mind. They assume because LE isn't calling their crazy asses back or releasing information to the public, that they aren't doing their job.

What they fail to realize is that we have laws in this country. Laws that protect people from false prosecution and these laws are used to ensure that the correct person(s) is(are) successfully brought to justice. The fact is that Terri Horman has not been accused of a crime as of yet. The speculation about her guilt or innocence is irrelevant at this point because we don't have all the facts. All the information that has been "leaked" so far has been leaked by Kyron's family. While the statements they made may be accurate, none of it has been confirmed by law enforcement.

I personally believe it is likely that Terri Horman is responsible for Kyron's disappearance. That being said, I find it despicable that people spread rumors in a reckless manner. It's disturbing and has nothing to do with finding a child that these people claim that they "love". It goes to show their lack of mental stability. Below is just a few from AnG, aka "Friends.4.Kyron".

This image shows where poster "friends.4.kyron" spreads rumors about Terri Horman and her friend Dede Spicher. It was posted Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 11:24 am.

This next image shows her statement has been retracted and edited. It shows it was edited on Sunday, July 25, 2010 at 5:14 pm. Two minutes later, she edited another comment in this same image.

And would you look at this...Friends.4.Kyron is even posting about a supposed love connection between Terri and Dede on her Facebook page.

She even goes as far as to offer Dede Spicher's phone number to those who want it. Apparently she thinks it's funny to pass the personal information of private citizens who have not been charged with a crime or accused of any wrongdoing outside of this circus.

There is a lesson to be learned here. What happens on the internet, stays on the internet--FOREVER. Posting libelous statements such as those in the above images can get you in a lot of trouble. It has nothing to do with Kyron and it does nothing to help find him.

The Exploitation of Kyron Horman

According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children  797,500 children (younger than 18) were reported missing in a one-year period of time studied resulting in an average of 2,185 children being reported missing each day"; 203,900 children were the victims of family abductions, and 58,200 children were the victims of non-family abductions.

Kyron Horman is likely the victim of familial abduction, although no one has been arrested and,  and while Terri Horman has NOT BEEN arrested, various blogs and forums are already pointing the e-finger at stepmother, Terri Horman as the culprit and have tried and convicted her, and are readying her for the gallows.  The point is, whether Terri Horman is the perpetrator of the crime, no one, and I mean NO ONE has a right to incite violence against another as these people (and I use that term loosely) are doing, nor should they be making money off of this missing boy.

Not only are they spending their days and nights posting their vapid diatribes about the evil that they believe Terri Horman to be, but they are then turning on their angelic face and posting sugar-filled missives such as this:

Friends .4. Kyron Sending you all of my love Kyron. Im going back to trying to figure out who has you baby boy so you can go back home. goodnight and I hope you are safe and alive and breathing beautiful little dreams. with love forever, your friend,AnG
