Zahra Baker Fund is a SCAM!!

**edited 10/22/10 Note - Spiritual Counseling Network has reported the image to Imageshack to have it removed.  Scared?  You are providing ILLEGAL COUNSELING!  I have put the photo back.  You're welcome, again!  Guilty much?

Internet pariah who stand on the backs of dead children is becoming the new way for scum to make a living online.  It has become a cottage industry for some rather than doing what normal people do and getting a JOB.  Some people would rather take advantage of people with kind hearts and take their hard earned money.  They would rather desecrate and disrespect the memory of dead children to use as their marketing platform than get real jobs. Reverend Brandon Greeson is NO BETTER.  REVEREND Greeson?, might I start with asking where this person received his licensure?  He just got out of the clink not long ago, so I am going to pull this one out of a rabbit's butt and guess that he registered for it online.  Am I right?  Who knew I was psychic!

Brandon Greeson
Brandon Greeson is an ex-con who has started a website using the name of a missing child.  Zahra Baker is 10-years old and is missing from her home in Hickory, North Carolina.  She is presumed dead at the hands of her father and stepmonster.  Greaser here is cashing in on the tragedy with his website.

Greeson says that his fund will create a "legacy" for Zahra.  In his words "The Zahra Baker Fund exists to help find Zahra and give her a legacy she rightfully deserves."  WHAT exactly will this legacy provide for?  (besides the obvious - associating this beautiful little girl's name with the likes of a scumbag convict and pretend college graduate counselor minister from a fake church).  Greeson is very nondescript in what he will do with this money, and says absolutely NOTHING as to what the funds will be used for.  However, anyone with a brain knows exactly what it will be for - to line his fraudulent pockets.  Before you go squawking...let's learn more about this organization and Greeson.

Per the Hickory Recorder:  The Christian Counseling Network’s spokesman for Zahra Baker Fund, Rev. Brandon Greeson, 27, was indicted on Jan. 7, 2008 for obtaining property by false pretenses and identity theft.  He is a thief.  A thief who is now asking for credit card numbers!!  He is also still on probation.

The www.zahrabaker.com site is NOT secure, and your credit card information could be stolen by inputting it into the form, and there is no use of a third party to ensure your safety from the likes of these criminals.  If you have given them your credit or debit card number and they have charged it, contact your bank immediately and report it.  You may be able to report it as a fraudulent transaction.  Greeson is the owner of the site and is to have no contact with credit card information according to the comments at the Hickory Record site.

Greeson pleaded guilty to obtaining property by false pretenses as a part of a plea deal that included a dismissal of the identity theft charges...and he wants your credit card numbers???

The charges stem from Greeson’s use of a woman’s name and credit card number without authorization to buy $54.44 in food from Jason’s Deli on U.S. 70 over a nine-day span in October 2006. The crime is a Class H felony.
Greeson had no previous criminal record and was sentenced to three years of probation.

“I never harvested or used credit card numbers in any way, nor did I violate the law. (but he is now) I “took the wrap” for something that I did not do,” he said in an email. “I was advised by my attorney to accept a plea bargain offer from the DA’s office, of which I did. Today, I accept full responsibility for my actions.”
Good grief.  "I took the wrap for something that I did not do"?  He went to jail.  He is on probation.  He did something or he wouldn't have had this run in with the law.  It sounds like Mr. Greeson still has no accountability nor remorse for his actions which is much different from his church face that he puts on at his facebook.

Asked by the Hickory Record what assurances he could give the public that the money collected by the Zahra Baker Fund would go to the proper recipients, Greeson said the fund is being administered by Dr. Timothy Curtis.  Well, here is the kicker!  Dr. Timothy Curtis with his "Doctorate of Divinity" *snickers* isn't really a "DOCTORATE" at all.  Someone who has attained higher education would know that their degree is a "Doctor of Divinity" and said degree is one that was EARNED from a university and not purchased from somewhere online such as Universal Life Ministries.  Dr. Curtis also writes like he is third grade educated.  His blog.

SE also checked into the nonprofit status of the "church" and Spiritual Counseling Network, and it was discovered that the Spiritual Counseling Network is NOT a registered 501(3)(c) with the Internal Revenue Service.   They claim that they are a "nonprofit" and are registered as a "religious" entity with the state of North Carolina but in the eyes of the IRS this does not give them tax exempt status.  They also claim that they are counselors.  I'll get to that in a second.

Spiritual Counseling Network is an autonomous and independent non-profit ministry that is not subject to the control of any church, denomination, or other ecclesiastical body.  The ministry is governed by a Board of Elders and is not subject to control by any government entity or agency.

We strive to provide quality, affordable and non-judgmental services to our community - most notably, Christian counseling.  We do not provide professional mental health treatment, medication management or psychiatric treatment.  However, we do provide services by counselors certified and licensed by the ministry.
This information is UNTRUTHFUL.  They state that they are a ministry who provide counseling, yet they do not provide mental health treatment.  The URL of their site is ncchristianCOUNSELORS.com.  In accordance to the laws of North Carolina governing counseling services, it states:

The "practice of counseling" means holding oneself out to the public as a professional counselor offering counseling services that include, but are not limited to, the following:

a. Counseling. – Assisting individuals, groups, and families through the counseling relationship by evaluating and treating mental disorders and other conditions through the use of a combination of clinical mental health and human development principles, methods, diagnostic procedures, treatment plans, and other psychotherapeutic techniques, to develop an understanding of personal problems, to define goals, and to plan action reflecting the client's interests, abilities, aptitudes, and mental health needs as these are related to personal-social-emotional concerns, educational progress, and occupations and careers.  Source
From "Dr. Curtis'" profile:

Dr. Timothy Curtis
Director of Operations / Christian Counselor
Dr. Timothy Curtis is co-founder of Spiritual Counseling Network. In 2009, Dr. Curtis was ordained as a minister with ULM. He went on to complete religious studies from ULM and was awarded a Doctorate of Divinity.

§ 90-381. Purpose.
It is the purpose of this Article to protect the public safety and welfare by providing for the certification and regulation of persons engaged in the practice of fee-based pastoral counseling and pastoral psychotherapy. (1991, c. 670.)

They are charging a fee for "counseling".  They are holding themselves out as "counselors".   The question remains...do you trust an organization with your credit card information that has a felon in charge of the information, a liar with a fake degree, and providing counseling services which are being held out as psychological in nature?

And this?  This infers that they are mental health counselors.

Our counselors are specially trained and highly qualified for this ministry. They have years of experience and hold clear Christian values. Their perspective is fresh, their bearing is gracious, their help is honest, and their faith in Christ is real.

NONE of these people are listed in the state's registry.  http://www.ncblpc.org/Verify.php

Truthtopower - do you know why we hold direct actions outside of CVBH? Its because CVBH is an agency that puts PROFIT over PEOPLE. They are NOT a government agency. They are a NON-PROFIT and the guy that runs the place makes over $1,600 a WEEK! A year or so ago, he was pushing a 6-digit salary.

Last year they cut services for over 300 clients - while still increasing the salaries of leadership members within their organization.

We stand up for the consumers at CVBH. We don't commit "emotional violence." Come join us next time we're there and see/hear for yourself. Talk with the clients who tell us they wait for 2-3 hours just to see their doctor. Who tells us that where they once was receiving one-on-one therapy... they are now having to talk in groups of 5-10 people (group therapy) about their problems (because the agency wants to "cut costs")

And ask the hundreds of people (the disabled & seniors) who are turned away because MEDICARE doesn't give CVBH (a non-profit agency) enough money to see them.

And you, want to throw stones at me?

    This is on their Facebook.
****One woman, Lori Powell, has came out attacking the Fund and making senseless and inaccurate allegations to the media about us. Zahra Fund is 100% transparent and every penny we collect will go to further the purposes for which we were established. Please show Ms. Powell that our community cares about Zahra by making ...your best financial gift. For us that care, our only concern (right now) is finding Zahra!*****

    OMG!!!!

  • Why are ALL these scammers, "Doctors of Divinity?" God WILL smite the hell out of them.

Thanks for sharing that LC. I am in my final year of law school. I have a friend who works for the district attorney's office and we're trying to build a case against these clowns. If you have any information, please contact me at samanthanhky@gmail.com

I asked when the drawing would be held that they were selling tickets for. My question was removed from their FB page and I can no longer post there. Also, I'd like to know why they think of themselves as Community Leaders like it says on the Zahra Baker website. Spiritual counseling - yeah right.
